[/size][/b]Lorelai was born to a sick father, Ray, and an alchemist mother, Julia. Ray didn't live long past Lorelai's first birthday.
After Ray's death, Julia never seemed quite right to the neighbors, to the point that Lorelai never really had any friends growing up, just her mother and the alchemy and cook books. She learned quickly.
Early on during Lorelai's life, Julia would use her daughter in her alchemy experiments, and though she was always very careful, there were accidents, upon occasion. When Lorelai was three, an experiment got out of hand. Lorelai lost her right foot. After this accident, Julia stopped using Lorelai in her experiments, for what I'd say are obvious reasons. She was ten before her mother gained enough money to equip her daughter with an automail replacement.
Lorelai never understood what her mother was doing, what the experiments were about. She never had any idea, but still, she never lost faith in her mother, even when the woman disappeared for days at a time. Lorelai quickly learned to cook for herself, and was very independent, though she didn't quite see it that way.
Julia disappeared as was normal, the day after Lorelai's fifteenth birthday, but, unlike normal, she didn't return after a week, a month, then finally, Lorelai realized that she was on her own. She still hasn't given up on finding her mother. A part of her feels that her mother is trapped somewhere, waiting for Lorelai to save her, but Lorelai knows the more likely explanation is that the woman is dead. Since her mother's disappearance, Lorelai has traveled the country, fixing things using her alchemy, usually for room and board, occasionally for money, mostly so that she can pay someone to maintain her automail.
About a year ago, Lorelai decided it was time to take an active role in finding her mother, and decided to start studying to take the State Alchemy exam, so that she'll be able to have access to state records. She put this decision off for years, knowing how very against her pacifist ideals that state alchemists often have to go, but she's completely run out of other leads.
Alchemic Specialties: With her trusting nature and her nomadic life, Lorelai has found herself in some rather sticky situations. In the first few years after leaving home. More than once, she was attacked and forced to do things she didn't much enjoy. In order to continue to be able to take the aid of others and stop these attacks, Lorelai learned a few ways of defending herself.
The first, she learned on her own, through trial and error. This was a way of creating shackles from either common dirt, wood, or a mixture of the two. These she can 'conjure' within seconds, though she soon discovered that without the physical strength to force them on her attackers, they weren't very practical.
The second, she learned with the help of an older female alchemist who took pity on the girl. Lorelai learned to create a sleeping powder from dirt and grass. Though the formula she was taught created a powerful powder that would knock its victim out for at least five hours, she played with the formula until it simply made its victim drowsy, mostly enough to make them forget what they were doing, and give Lorelai enough time to create her shackles and detain one attacker. She can create her own formula in about two seconds, the stronger dose in about ten.
Side note: due to her mild obsession with fire, she has a mild fan girl crush on Roy Mustang
