Work work work, that was all he ever did. Hardly ever, did he get just a day to himself, though he didn't mind. He had to do something if he wanted to achieve his goal of becoming Furher. That goal seemed so far away, as if it would never happen. Don't even think like that. the voice inside his head said. Maybe it was time for a day off, a day to himself. Or maybe, he'd go spend time with Riza. She would take his mind off of things that had happened recently, all the terrible things. Hughes....how could he be gone? There were still so many things that they had to do, so many things that needed to be done. You weren't supposed to die yet, Hughes... Roy's thoughts trailed off into memories of Brigadier General Hughes.
The lights flickered in the room, or maybe he just blinked really fast and didn't realize it. A fly was buzzing around the room, every now and then it would circle around the Colonel's head. "Buzzzzz buzzzzz. the noise sounded loudly within his ears. Anything seemed more interesting than doing his paperwork, perhaps he'd just have his underlings do it instead. That was the easy way out of it, at least. Then he would have time to investigate further into Hughes death, to try and find out whatever Hughes knew that got him killed. To find whoever, or whatever killed his best friend.

Lorelai hated paperwork, hated it with a passion. If she were honest with herself, that was likely part of the reason she'd waited so long to try joining the ranks of the state alchemists. Never mind the chance of being forced to fight a war, to go against everything she felt to the core of her being. The thing was, she couldn't wait any longer. She couldn't put off getting a real job, and she couldn't get a job that would force her to stay in one place so that she couldn't search for her mother.
It was surprising to her that, wrapped in her thoughts as she was, that she noticed the name on the door. Of course, this was a name she'd heard many times around the country. She often searched for gossip about the state alchemists, and this particular name, well, it was connected with someone she’d longed to meet for a long time. Despite the rumors that he was a womanizer.
She didn't care. All Lorelai really wanted was a chance to talk to the man, maybe see his flame alchemy. It just sounded so very cool. So, instead of continuing to stand by his door hoping that he wouldn't come out and see her staring like an idiot at his name on said door, she took a deep breath and knocked, immediately regretting the action. What if he was busy? Surely, he'd have better things to do than to entertain her. Besides, what in the world could she possibly say to The Flame Alchemist? She decided just to leave, but found that her legs wouldn't cooperate.

His mind was clouded by thoughts of Hughes, until a soft tap sounded at his door. He quickly stood up, anything to get out of doing paperwork, and walked to the door. There in front of him stood a young woman, possibly in her twenties. She appeared to have a orangish color to her hair, she stood with her head at his chest. ”Why, hello young miss.” His voice flowed with easy at the words. Roy stepped out the woman’s way so that she may enter his office.
”So, what brings a young woman like you here?” Roy’s smooth voice carried the words around the room. He could already assume what is was, for the Furher had asked him to conduct the Alchemy Exams within The Eastern sector of Amestris due to the Further Bradley being away for business. He hadn’t had many people come to him though, since Alchemy was hard to master. The Flame Alchemist walked around the office, until he reached his desk. Casually he sat, and folded his arms before his hands clasped each other so he could rest his head.
”I’m rather glad you’re here, no matter what it is. You saved me from having to fill out all of this paperwork.” A slight smirk crossed his face, so try and soften the mood with the woman. He wasn’t entirely sure of why he was smirking, though he thought it might make her calmer.

Lorelai couldn't stop the slight blush that came across her face as Roy Mustang spoke to her. She gave him a shy little wave, as she inwardly chastised herself. She was not a fifteen year old to get star stuck by a reputation and a pretty face. Though, really, good God was that a pretty face. "Hello." She had a slight urge to slap herself, thinking that maybe it would snap her out of this, but then, well, that wouldn't seem quite sane.
She took a deep breath and smiled at Colonel Mustang. "I'm Lorelai Nott, I just finished up the paperwork for the upcoming State Alchemy exam. I was told you'd be conducting the exam this year, and I thought it'd be... useful to meet you." Never mind that I really really wanted to meet you. She was doing her very best, now, to conceal her excitement over meeting the Flame Alchemist. It wasn't an easy task. She hoped she wasn't coming off as too very strange.
And then he told her that he was glad she was there. Well that just made her day, no matter why he was glad. She giggled softly. "Oh, the toils of paperwork. It's never terribly fun, is it?" If anything the smirk on his face made her feel more wound up.

Roy watched as Lorelai’s face flushed, and as her hand made a small wave. ” I'm Lorelai Nott, I just finished up the paperwork for the upcoming State Alchemy exam. I was told you'd be conducting the exam this year, and I thought it'd be... useful to meet you.” the words echoed inside his head. Useful to meet me, huh? ”Well then, Miss Lorelai Nott, what kind of Alchemy will you be specializing in, or is it just basic Alchemy used in a unique way? You don’t have to answer me, though I can say that I’m curious.”
He shifted his hands to one side, making his head lean more to the right side of the desk. Watching Lorelai get flustered underneath her calm appearance was rather fun for the Flame Alchemist. ”Yes, it does seem that I am conducting the Exams this year. If you will, please put all of your paperwork into a neat pile right here” the Colonel pointed to a small empty spot on his desk.
”Now. To talk about the exams. The exams will be held in three days time. You will be required to report back to Eastern Command, and see me prior to the exam. Afterwards you will be notified by me, if you pass or not, and will be rewarded with you Military name. As you know, every state alchemist that passes is given a name, such as mine is the Flame Alchemist.” Roy looked into the girl’s eyes, a small light could be seen within his cold dark eyes.

Lorelai took a few moments to think over how she would explain her own alchemy. "I'm probably most practiced at using alchemy in repair work, as that's how I've been supporting myself, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve." She gave him a bit of a grin. "A nomadic girl has to have ways to defend herself." She'd learned that lesson the hard way, including the fact that it was generally better not to tip her hand too quickly, especially when she found someone attractive.
A sincere look crossed her face as he directed her on what to do with her paperwork. She nodded and carefully straightened the small stack of papers and placed them on the Flame Alchemist's desk, making sure to avoid messing anything else up. Once that was completed, she felt rather silly, acting so formal over a bit of paperwork, but she had no idea how to act around him.
Now Lorelai knew at least a bit of formality was called for. She listened intently as he told her about the exam. Three days? I thought I had at least another week... She managed to keep her face from showing her nerves. There was a spark in her eyes and a grin on her face at the mention of his name. Oh, how many times had she heard that name? Wondered about the man behind the name, wished to see what gave him the title. There was only a moment of curiosity about what her own title would be. "Yes, Sir."

Roy let out a little sigh to muffle the sound of the constant ticking. Tick, tock, tick, tock, the time flew by as he sat in his office. "I'm probably most practiced at using alchemy in repair work, as that's how I've been supporting myself, but I have a few tricks up my sleeve." the woman's voice was merely a murmur within Roy's head. It took a few moments before he realized that she was talking to him once again, before he replied, "Repair, huh? That will be an interesting one to watch."
"You know, we've got another pretty young Alchemist among us. I believe that he is 15 now, you may know him. His dog name is Fullmetal, he's about yay-high" Roy said gesturing with his hand, motioning it upward and downward. [/blockquote][/color]

Lorelai shrugged. She really had no idea what she'd do for a demonstration. Maybe, well, no, she'd need a guinea pig for that. She spoke shyly, knowing the Flame Alchemist's work would make a much more interesting show than her own, no matter what she did. "I don't know that repair jobs are all that interesting to watch, at least not for a seasoned alchemist. Not that I mean to contradict you or anything..." Her voice trailed off.
That was interesting. She knew Full Metal was young, still a teenager. How young did he think she was? She supposed she didn't really show her age all that well, especially when she was working so hard to keep herself looking good for her first trip into Central. Thanks to that line of thought, it took Lorelia a few moments to realize he was calling her pretty, that brought the blush back to her face stronger than before. "Well, I'm not quite that young, Sir. I've got more than a decade on him." She blinked, confused by a certain term. "Um... dog name?"
