Low and behold, this is what I do in my free time at school. I did this entirely from memory, and it is not complete so hang with me. I'm sure it will be completed within the next few days.
Ed and Al tried the worst kind of Alchemy, Human Transmutation. Their mother, Trisha Elric, succumbed to disease, breaking her promise to Van Hoenhiem. Desperately wanting their mother back, the two young boys attempted human transmutation, the taboo of all alchemy, and doing so cause Alphonse Elric to lose his body and Edward Elric to lose his left leg. Upon discovery of his brother being taken, Ed quickly made a blood seal inside his father’s suit of armor, and sacrificing his right arm for the soul of his younger brother.
Not long after the incident, word traveled to Eastern command that there was a skilled Alchemist living in the small town of Resembol. Hearing of such an alchemist, Roy Mustang and Lieutenant Riza Hawkeye traveled to find the skilled alchemist. Once they arrived in Resembol, they found out that the alchemist was merely a young boy. This did not matter to Mustang, as he still offered him a position as a State alchemist under his command in the Eastern branch. Leaving Edward with those words, Mustang and Hawkeye departed Resembol.
Three years later, Edward decided to take Mustang up on his offer to become a State Alchemist. The Rockbell Automechanics, Winry and her grandmother, made Edward an automail arm and leg for his use. With these new limbs, Ed no longer had to draw a transmutation circle to perform alchemy. Late would he find out that this only occurred because he saw The Truth.
Edward and Alphonse traveled to Central Command for Edward to take his State Alchemy Exam, and passed exceedingly. After officially becoming a dog of the military, Edward gained access to all military records, and most of the restricted records. Being able to search through all of the records helped Ed with his research on the Philosopher Stone. After many false leads, such as the fake priest in Leore, Edward started to doubt the fact he would ever find the stone. Although the incidents were ruled as failures, they almost always left the Elric brothers with new hope for their journey.
On a trip to Resembol with Major Armstrong, Ed and Al stopped in a small village before switching trains. In this small village Armstrong noticed someone familiar at the train station. After alerting the brothers that he believed he saw Doctor Marco, a “retired” State Alchemist, and told them who Doctor Marco was, the boys pursued him.
After finding Doctor Marco’s home, they were held at gun point by the doctor himself. He believe that they had come to drag him back to Central to work in the military again. Reassuring him that were not there to drag him to Central, he finally let them inside of his home.
